Do you remember when you were growing up?
You had so many dreams and thought to yourself:
When I grow up, I want to be like…………………. (Fill in the blank space.)
I want to have a big house, six figures in my bank account and enjoy afternoon tea with the queen!
But then… life happens.
That burning passion you had dissolved… life is a….
You start to feel disillusioned and the journey reverts to the beginning. So you ask yourself, why are you here and will you ever be successful?
Well, today’s article will be unveiling the pillows of success, if you are like me; you’ve gone through this loop several times, which makes you frustrated and somewhat stuck; because I was.
Let’s talk about it?
The truth is, success has many layers: Financial, Material, Emotional and Commercial. These layers mean different things to us all. No one view will be the same. But success can only be achieved by persevering despite failure. Failure will always be present. This is inevitable. Failure helps you grasp your mistakes. The main key to being successful is to understand your purpose!
There are some early hurdles you will face in your journey that causes you to want to give up; this is because of fear. However, you should not quite, just keep going.
Exercise is the best analogy to explain success—there is a goal (dream) you wish to achieve, so you put the work in—the moment you feel like quitting (when it gets hard, painful and aches) is the moment you ought to push harder. Though not everyone can do this, but it is through the pain, tears and blood that success is unveiled. You have to go against the odds; it is never straightforward. Thus, each time you fall—the secret is: you need to get up and fight twice as hard. Easier said than done, right?
But honestly, the process or the journey will make you stronger and force you to fight harder—you’ll become more versatile. Without a doubt, you will have to make tough decisions to attain greatness and soar to the level you desire to be.
I once heard the saying “No pain, No gain” and grew to understand that this is a quote for success. From pain comes pleasure, from darkness light and from hard work comes success. There are many successful people who never had the slightest idea they would be where they are now. But how did they achieve this? With persistence. They never quit when they thought it was over, instead they kept pushing through obstacles and fighting for their goals.
Thomas Edison did not fail because he had a laser-like vision, he could overcome the toughest obstacle; when he was asked how he knew that he could become successful, after he failed a thousand times, he replied saying “I did not fail, I just found a thousand ways it could not work.” Deep!
Many people who desires to become successful give up after a couple of mistakes and bad turns, not knowing that they are close to a great deal of success, more than enough to wrap their arms around.
The funnel of success 101:
Whatever you desire is in the palm of your hands, waiting for you to take a chance. There will be barriers at every step because the fruit of everything good in life comes through challenges. It will never be simple. It will always be difficult and the only way to get to the other side of this journey is to encounter hardship in order to grow.
Tips on how to achieve success:
- Hard work:
Working hard towards your desire goals leads to success; there is not one successful person in this world that just sits in wonder and achieves their accomplishments.
What do you stand for—what is it that you ride and die for or sacrifice for against all odds?
You have a gift. There is something you are born to achieve; what is it? It’s what gives you chills, makes you smile and fulfils a need. This is one of the core things that will help you to succeed.
Having a clear and succinct vision sets you apart from the rest and it makes you become more impactful. I recommend that you make a vision broad- so you can see your vision daily. You also need to get into a habit of asking myself the below question every three months:
- Where do you see yourself in the future?
- What do you want to achieve?
- What is it that you want to do that will help someone?
- Unique selling position (USP):
What makes you stand out—what do you offer that no one else does? What extra added touch do you bring to the mixture? To be successful you have to be a mixologist—mixing ingredients in the hope that the end product will taste amazing. If you try one thing and it doesn’t work, keep mixing and you will get your perfect drink, soon enough.
This four-letter word is a shark—it’s unpredictable. It’s sharp. It’s vicious. If you are not careful, it can destroy your success before you try. But take risks anyways… you just don’t know until you try and if you fail, keep trying.
Failure is inevitable and if you do, fail big. I learnt that it’s through failures I get my greatest ideas and concepts. My writing, poems, eBooks and speeches all stem from me failing. I don’t think I would be here if I didn’t fail big. I’ve lost lots of money and business confidence, yet I preserved.
- Helping others:
Being successful, you have to learn the importance of serving others—because there is more value in being servants than just being a master. The servant knows its end users, whereas the master doesn’t—they only give commands. Serve, so that you can gain trust and loyalty.
- Make a difference:
Don’t just aspire to make a living, aspire to make a difference. Whenever you accomplish goals, reach back and inspire someone else because everyone teaches someone else. Don’t confuse movement with progress because movement is the ability to say you can, but progress are all of the changes you acquire along the journey to success. If you don’t start now, it’s not because of what you don’t have; it’s the fear of assuming that you haven’t grasped the impact you can make. Inspire the world with your action, your experience and accomplishments.
Without commitment, you will never start and without consistency, you will never finish. You need to fight and hope for success and you should not be afraid to fail because it is life’s lesson.
You’ve got to have self-discipline to achieve greatness, you have to have the ability to not want to do it and still do it; you have to be tough and ready to face the worst of the worst. Given that, on this journey, you will at some point experience fear, tears, failure, heartbreaks, struggles and the thought of giving up. However, if you are self-disciplined, you will be confident enough to achieve your goals.
- Setting goals:
Set goals to navigate to success. These goals, however, need to be SMART. These goals also need to be reviewed on a daily basis. Benjamin Franklin said, “failing to plan is planning to fail.” Honestly, it’s human nature to go with the first idea, without careful mapping. However, to attain success, it’s vital that you approach with caution. So continue to work hard and take your best shot at life’s toughest challenges, utilising your pivotal SMART goal. You need to be the one not to procrastinate, you have to get up and get things done as success lies within the faith to believe that you can.
Be around individuals who support and understand your vision—they are the ones that will keep you motivated when you hit rock bottom. They are the strong people who can make you believe that you can become as great as them. This, therefore, means, stop surrounding yourself with people who belittle your ambition. You need to understand that when you build an army, you will have an opposing force, so you need to have the courage, strength, determination and a strong mindset to fight for your goals.
Mirror 2 mirror:
The best view comes after the hardest climb and if you don’t sacrifice for what you want, what you want will remain a distant dream. Strength is the product of struggles so don’t feel as if you should be weak based on what others think of you. You must do what others don’t and achieve what others won’t. Every successful person begins with two beliefs: that the future can be better than the present and I have the power to make it better. Believe in yourself and your talent. However, the road to success has more corners and some of the highest hills and is not a smooth journey.. Nonetheless, adhering to the above formula, success is just a step away.
Now it’s your turn, what is your story?
